Java Runtime / JDK
To run any java application on a computer we need to first make sure the computer has Java runtime
A Java distribution comes typically in two flavors, the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and the Java Development Kit (JDK).
The Java runtime environment (JRE) consists of the JVM and the Java class libraries and contains the necessary functionality to start Java programs.
The JDK contains in addition the development tools necessary to create Java programs. The JDK consists therefore of a Java compiler, the Java virtual machine, and the Java class libraries.
Installation and configuration of JDK.
Below steps can be followed for installation and configuration of JDK
1. Click here to goto the oracle download page for Java 6 . In the download page select the checkbox for accept terms and conditon and select the
jdk-6u45-windows-i586.exe for 32 bit machine OR jdk-6u45-windows-x64.exe for 64 bit machine.to download.
2 . Click on the exe and install the Java Jdk on the computer . The installation typically would be installed in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk<version>
3. Configure the PATH for Java After installing jdk .
Go to environment variables
Click on the New in Environment variable if the PATH variable is not present
Assign the Variable value to your java jdk installation path ,
In this case from the picture we can see the value is
